About Jessica
I am a fully qualified English Language and Literature teacher, graded regularly as outstanding in lesson observations.
With over 2 years experience teaching in a comprehensive classroom environment, I specialise in secondary studies offering tutoring to pupils from Year 7 to A Level standard in English Language, Literature, Drama and Media. I am also able to offer support for the 11+ exam/ verbal and non-verbal reasoning having coached pupils through this previously and personally passed a grammar school entrance exam.
I have worked with a range of SEN pupils, identifying individual barriers to learning and developing personalised strategies to help each pupil make optimal progress.
My work as an annual English GCSE examiner keeps me up to date with exam board mark schemes and allows me to communicate exact requirements to pupils sitting current examinations.
Above all, I place a high value on engagement and purpose within my lessons, believing that true learning can only occur when these are in place.

I am a reflective practitioner continuously striving to improve the engagement of pupils so they can make optimal progress.
I approach lesson planning in a creative fashion, particularly for those individuals whose learning style does not lend itself naturally to English, ensuring inclusion and achievement for all.
Most importantly I believe in ‘facilitating learning’ to encourage the independent thinking skills that pupils will require more and more as they move through their education.
