About Jonathan

Hello! I’m Mr Jona, MJ for short, a Business & Economics tutor and qualified educator with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Nottingham and a Bachelor of Business & Commerce from Monash University, where I specialized in Accountancy, Business Analytics, Business Law and Taxation.

I have been teaching and tutoring since 2017, working with students from different countries, age groups and educational backgrounds. My experience includes teaching Cambridge, Edexcel, IB and AP curricula, with a particular focus on Business Studies, Economics, Accounting and other commerce-related subjects.

As a qualified educator, I believe that effective tutoring is about much more than knowing the subject. A good tutor needs to understand how students learn, identify where they are struggling, and adapt their teaching accordingly. My PGDE training has given me a strong foundation in inclusive and student-centered teaching, while my tutoring experience has taught me how to tailor lessons to the individual needs of each learner.

My lessons are structured, interactive and focused on genuine understanding. I use real-world examples, case studies, discussions, quizzes, past-paper questions and exam-style activities to help students connect theory with the world around them. In Business and Economics especially, I believe students learn far better when they can see how concepts apply to real companies, markets and everyday decisions.

I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique. Understanding a definition is only the beginning. Students need to know how to apply their knowledge, analyze information, develop arguments, evaluate alternatives and communicate their ideas clearly. I therefore work with students to develop both their subject knowledge and the skills required to turn that knowledge into strong examination answers.

At the same time, I want my lessons to be enjoyable. I have a naturally positive personality and a good sense of humor, and I am not afraid to use it appropriately in my teaching. I believe students are more willing to participate, ask questions and challenge their own understanding when they feel comfortable in the learning environment.

Whether you are preparing for IGCSE, GCSE, AS or A Level, IB, AP, or simply want to strengthen your understanding of Business, Economics or Accounting, I will tailor our lessons to your goals and current level.

My aim is simple: to help students become more confident, think more critically, understand the subject properly and ultimately become independent learners.

About the lesson

I believe that students should understand a concept before being expected to memorize it. My lessons therefore combine clear explanations with real-world examples, case studies, discussion, exam questions, quizzes and practical activities.

I also adapt my teaching to the individual student. Some learners need visual explanations, some learn through discussion and questioning, while others benefit most from working through examples and receiving immediate feedback. My PGDE training has strengthened my ability to recognize these differences and create lessons that are inclusive and accessible.

Most importantly, I want students to enjoy learning. Business and Economics are naturally connected to the world around us, so I use current businesses, markets and everyday situations to bring abstract concepts to life. I also believe that a little humor goes a long way in creating a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
