I personally learned English from an early age and the techniques I found most effective in improving my level were through songs and movies/series. I think that apart from learning grammar and vocabulary, it is necessary to listen and understand/translate songs that we like and watch episodes of series or films in the original English version because it is the most fun, engaging and motivating way to learn.
