About Michael
I am a published poet, writer, and creative writing tutor with more than a decade of experience helping students develop confident, engaging writing. I specialize in GATE (ASET) written test preparation, scholarship writing, NAPLAN narrative and persuasive writing, and creative writing for competitions and publication. My own work has been published in leading Australian and international journals and anthologies, and I am passionate about helping aspiring writers build the skills, creativity and confidence to achieve their goals.

My Approach to Tutoring and Teaching
I use tried-and-tested teaching techniques and methodologies that are tailored to each student's individual goals. At the beginning of our lessons, I ask students what they hope to achieve so that I can structure the session around their specific needs.
Students are then given an appropriate writing prompt and asked to produce a piece of writing within a set timeframe. Once they have completed their work, they read it aloud, and I provide constructive verbal feedback, highlighting both its strengths and the areas that can be improved. This approach helps students recognise what they are doing well while developing the skills needed to reach their goals.
Where appropriate, I also share examples of high-quality writing from successful students or published authors to inspire students and demonstrate effective writing techniques in practice.

A typical lesson is one hour, providing sufficient time for writing, feedback, discussion, and setting goals for continued improvement.
