About Robert

I'm a graduate from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts (NILA). My mentors there were David Wagoner, Carolyne Wright, and Marvin Bell. I was David's Teacher's Assistant for three semesters running. For over 15 years I participated in a literary workshop environment; for three years ran an international monthly writing contest that awarded money to the (admittedly subjective) best. I know what gets published. I've mentored and taught dozens of poets and novelists. I run an online critique group to improve the grammar, craft, and myth-lore of creative writing, A number have gotten published. I value self-expression and the best way to get it done.

About the lesson

Every poet, curious or established, comes to the table with questions. After the first free course, I will tailor a syllabus to meet the needs of the artist. To meet these goals, there will be a healthy balance of lessons in craft, poetry folklore, composition of poems, and feedback in a workshop environment. It is my goal to have the student leaving with confidence in their craft and (my personal goal) a champion of poetry.

Carrie is a brilliant communicator. Her greatest challenge will be focusing of a task to completion (one reason she's here at superprof, I suppose) but there is no doubt in my mind she is quite capable. I look forward to reading her memoir.

Dmitriy was a surprise. He engaged right away and knows what he’s about. Likewise, when he had questions he asked them. He contributed greatly. The only shortcoming (from a teacher perspective) was a lack of hard goals, but Dmitriy is sharp and I know we can find those sooner than later. :0)

It's not easy - being new to poetry - but Hil's son was extremely attentive and was able to follow quickly. Though we'd spent a couple of hours on the one emergency :0) I do hope he take the time to read and create poetry on his own. It's a whole 'nother language.

Perfect! Robert was proficient, engaged, interested in what I was looking for/needed, great listener, friendly, good sense of humor, not afraid to tell me what should be done to correct my poems, gave me homework which I was hoping for...just all around very good teacher.
