About Frank Dudley

I am a 75-year-old, retired trial attorney. My academic background is in philosophy and literature (Pomona College, Boalt Hall School of Law). The literature that I teach has been an invaluable tool in my professional practice and throughout my life, a source of inspiration on occasion and wisdom always. But mostly it's lively, interesting, and fun—or should be.

I'm also a published author, with two novels and several novellas on Amazon. If you're curious, look me up on Amazon. The two novels I choose to publicize have been exceptionally well received, and several of my novellas have won awards.

Basically, my approach is enrichment. The classics of English literature have not become classics because they are dull. Properly approached, they are extremely exciting. I try and convey the excitement and interest of these great works in a way that makes the student able to appreciate and go forward on their own. The goal is not simply to appreciate this stuff, but to enjoy it, to make it your own. Writing is not an essential element of the approach, but many of the students I have worked with also want to work on their writing skills. Critical essays about these classics are a good way to work toward both goals.
