About Nika

I am a counselling psychology doctoral researcher and university tutor with experience teaching and supporting students at undergraduate and master’s level.

I support students with research methods, qualitative research, dissertation and research project development, academic writing, critical reading, essay structure, and developing clear, well-supported arguments. I particularly enjoy helping people take a complicated idea or an overwhelming piece of work and turn it into something structured, manageable, and intellectually coherent.

My own doctoral research is qualitative, so I can also support students who are developing research questions, choosing an appropriate methodology, planning a qualitative study, working with interview-based research, or making sense of approaches such as thematic analysis, IPA, grounded theory, narrative research, and other qualitative methodologies.

I hold postgraduate qualifications in counselling psychology, a master’s degree in psychology, and a master’s degree in school counselling, and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Alongside academia, I have worked across NHS, third-sector, educational, and therapeutic settings. This means I am comfortable working with complex psychological material and helping students connect theory, research, and practice without losing academic precision.

I have lived and worked in several countries and am very comfortable supporting international students and students whose first language is not English. I can help you strengthen the clarity and structure of your writing while retaining your own ideas and academic voice.

Students often come to me because they feel stuck, overwhelmed by a dissertation or research project, unsure how to structure an assignment, or uncertain about what their tutors are actually asking them to do. My approach is calm, collaborative, and structured. Rather than simply telling you what to write, I help you understand the task, develop your thinking, and become more confident making academic decisions independently.

Sessions are tailored to what you are working on, whether that means discussing a research idea, working through feedback, planning an essay or dissertation chapter, improving a draft, understanding a methodology, or simply figuring out where to begin.

My sessions are practical, focused, and built around the work you are actually doing.

You can bring an assignment brief, essay plan, dissertation chapter, research proposal, feedback from your tutor, data you are trying to analyse, or simply a project you do not yet know how to approach. We will identify what is getting in the way, work through it together, and turn it into a clear set of next steps.

Depending on what you need, a session might involve:

• developing or refining a research question
• planning an essay, dissertation, or research proposal
• strengthening the structure and logic of an argument
• understanding and responding to tutor feedback
• choosing or understanding a research methodology
• working through qualitative analysis or SPSS
• improving clarity, academic style, and critical analysis
• making sense of psychological theories, concepts, or research papers
• preparing for A-level psychology essays and exams

I do not simply tell you what to write. I will ask questions, explain the reasoning behind academic decisions, help you identify where an argument or project is becoming unclear, and show you how to move it forward yourself. The aim is for you to understand your work well enough to make stronger decisions independently.

If you are working on a dissertation or research project, sessions can also be used as ongoing support across different stages of the process, from an early research idea through to methodology, analysis, discussion, and final revisions.

Sessions are usually 60 minutes. You are welcome to book regularly or use sessions at particular points when you need focused support. Wherever possible, we work directly with your own material so that the session produces something useful straight away, such as a clearer structure, a refined question, a stronger argument, an analysis plan, or a concrete plan for what to do next.

I mainly work with undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students, including students completing dissertations and research projects, and I also support A-level psychology students.

The goal is not just to get you through the piece of work in front of you. It is to make academic work feel more intelligible, give you a clearer way of approaching difficult tasks, and help you develop skills that carry over into the next assignment or research project.
