About Haley

¡Hola, chicos! I’m Miss Beau, and I’m so excited to be your Spanish teacher this year! I’m 18 years old and from right here in Missouri. I’ve always loved learning about different languages and cultures, and I can’t wait to share that passion with you. In my class, we’ll do way more than just study vocabulary — we’ll explore music, food, traditions, and fun parts of life in Spanish-speaking countries. My goal is to make learning Spanish something you actually enjoy and feel confident doing. We’ll laugh, make mistakes, learn together, and by the end of the year, you’ll be surprised at how much Spanish you can understand and use. Let’s make it a great year — ¡vamos a aprender español juntos!

My Teaching Techniques 1. Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Focus on real-life communication, not just grammar drills. Use conversations, role-plays, and scenarios where students must use Spanish to solve problems or express ideas. Example: students order food in a “Spanish café” simulation. 2. Task-Based Learning Design lessons around specific tasks or projects that require Spanish. Example: creating a travel brochure for a Spanish-speaking country, recording a video interview, or writing a recipe book in Spanish. 3. Differentiated Instruction Adapt lessons for different learning styles — visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. Use songs, visuals, gestures, and movement to help all students succeed. 4. Music, Games, and Pop Culture Incorporate songs, TikTok clips, memes, or short films to teach vocabulary and culture. Use Kahoot, Quizlet Live, or Jeopardy-style review games for fun competition and repetition. 5. Cultural Immersion Bring in authentic materials: menus, videos, podcasts, and news articles from Spanish-speaking countries. Celebrate cultural holidays (like Día de los Muertos or La Tomatina) with hands-on activities. 6. Technology Integration Use digital tools like Duolingo Classroom, Flip (formerly Flipgrid), Edpuzzle, or Nearpod for interactive practice. Encourage students to create short videos, presentations, or podcasts in Spanish. 7. Scaffolding and Comprehensible Input Speak mostly in Spanish, but use visuals, gestures, and repetition to make meaning clear. Gradually increase language difficulty as students gain confidence. 8. Cooperative Learning Have students work in pairs or groups to practice dialogues, complete challenges, or teach each other new vocabulary. Builds confidence and communication skills. 9. Interactive Reading and Writing Use short, engaging texts (stories, dialogues, social media posts) for reading comprehension. Let students write creatively — postcards, journals, or messages — instead of only formal essays. 10. Positive Reinforcement and Relationship-Building Create a supportive environment where students aren’t afraid to make mistakes. Use praise, humor, and encouragement to build participation and confidence. A Typical Lesson Plan1. Warm-Up (5–7 min) Tool: Nearpod or Zoom chat Greet students in Spanish: “¡Hola clase! ¿Cómo están hoy?” Play a quick emotions or adjective matching game (e.g., match pictures to words like feliz, cansado, alto). Icebreaker question in chat: “Describe yourself in one emoji!” (then discuss in Spanish). 2. Presentation (10 min) Tool: Slides + teacher screen share Present new vocabulary (adjectives + forms of ser). Use visuals, gestures, and real examples. Model sentences: Yo soy simpática. Él es alto y gracioso. Use polls or reactions (“Raise hand if this describes you: Soy deportista”). 3. Guided Practice (10–12 min) Tool: Breakout rooms or Jamboard In pairs or small groups, students complete a “Describe y Adivina” activity: One student describes a celebrity or classmate. The partner guesses who it is. Use a shared Jamboard so each group writes their clues. Teacher monitors rooms and gives live feedback. 4. Independent Practice (10–15 min) Tool: Flip or Google Slides Students create a digital self-description: A short video on Flip introducing themselves, or A Google Slide with a selfie/bitmoji and sentences like: Hola, me llamo Ana. Soy artística y simpática. Tengo quince años. Encourage creativity and pronunciation practice. 5. Wrap-Up / Exit Ticket (5 min) Tool: Google Form or Nearpod quiz Quick review quiz: Choose the correct form of ser or match adjectives. Ask students: “¿Qué palabra nueva aprendiste hoy?” in chat. Assessment Formative: participation in chat, breakout rooms, Nearpod polls. Summative: Flip video or written digital description. Extensions Post a Padlet board where students upload pictures or drawings with Spanish captions describing themselves. Assign a Quizlet set for vocabulary review and track student progress. What Sets Me Aside As a Tutor 1: I make Spanish come alive 2: I focus on real communication, not perfection 3: I connect language with culture and creativity! 4: I teach with passion and a purpose
