About Jared
I was born in Kansas City, and grew up between there and Madrid, Spain. I went to college between the U.S. and Spain, triple majoring in French literature, Hispanic cultures, and Social Science, with a minor in Geography. I then split time in graduate school among Spain, the U.S., and Portugal, earning an MA in International Relations and International Law, and a Ph.D. in Political Science (which was in part funded by a Fulbright Scholarship). Thus, I have often been the outsider in a classroom, culturally, linguistically, and conceptually. My experience has made me extremely curious and, with time, knowledgeable about the world. It has also made me a very attentive and understanding educator.

The longer I have taught, the more I focus on the big picture of whatever topic, country, system, etc., that my students need to understand. The facts and details come more easily once the big ideas are under control. Another thing that I strive to help students understand is that they often know more than they realize, both conceptually and factually.
I have nearly twenty years worth of experience teaching at the college level, and would likely be most beneficial to undergraduate students of political science, both the U.S. and international politics, from intro to upper-level courses. That said, AP high school students in the social sciences would benefit from our time together, too.
