About Eugene

I taught for 28 years at Western IL U and one year at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, MA as well as Adult classes in Boston MA. Also was Artist in Residence and visiting Professor at Kelvin Grove College in Brisbane Australia. Published an Artists Life, led the Boylston Chess Club to 2 City wide Championships, and have been recording Togolot music for 45 years. Exhibited paintings in US, Australia and Paris France. Studied with Karl Zerbe, David Aronson and Jason Berger.

About the lesson

In painting and drawing I teach traditional techniques of the old and modern masters. In oil painting that includes learning to use an underpainting and how to glaze and scumble on top of it. The painting must also be based on a solid design which I learned from the last of the old Bauhaus masters who taught at the Boston Museum school in the 40's and 50's after WWII. In drawing the human figure I learned anatomy of the human body and techniques that emphasized correct proportions and gestures in life drawing classes. I did figurative paintings and cityscapes of Boston and Brisbane Australia as well as figurative paintings of groups of figures and portraits. I also had a period of abstract painting and worked on computer art with my father who was a scientist and programmer. My landscapes were mostly done out of doors in Boston, Brisbane and Paris. I also kept many sketchbooks working in all media watercolor pen and ink as well as oil crayons and pastels.
