About David

Featured on the CBC Canada's “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30", South Korean-born violinist David Baik is devoted to expressing intimate emotions through his instrument and creating a profound connection with his audience.

David obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto, where he studied with Jonathan Crow, and continued his training at the Schulich School of Music under Andrew Wan as a fellowship recipient. For the 2024/25 season, he was a member of the Rebanks Family Fellowship and International Residency Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

He is the recipient of numerous distinctions, including the 2023 Peter-Mendell Award from the Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation, Grand Prize at the 2021 NAC Bursary Competition, consecutive First Prizes at the 2016 and 2017 Canadian Music Competition, Sturdevant Prize, Gerhard Kander Graduating Award, Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Fellowship, and the Gabriella Dory Prize. He was also named a laureate of the 2023 Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank Competition.

About the lesson

I believe that every student learns differently, which is why I tailor each lesson to the individual. Whether you're picking up the violin for the first time, preparing for an RCM exam, auditioning for an orchestra, or refining advanced repertoire, lessons are designed around your goals and interests.

My teaching combines technical development, musical expression, and effective practice habits to help students build confidence and make consistent progress. Drawing from my experience as a professional performer, I help students develop not only strong violin skills, but also a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.

I work with students of all ages and levels in a supportive and encouraging environment. Lessons can include RCM and Suzuki training, audition preparation, music theory, performance coaching, and personalized practice strategies. My goal is to inspire students to enjoy the learning process while reaching their full musical potential.
