About David

I hold an MSc from UBC and have published my scientific research on diamonds in some of the best journals in the world. My passion for Math, Science, and sharing knowledge has naturally led me to a fruitful teaching career in which I've managed to inspire hundreds of students while helping them achieve their academic goals. I currently work as a professional tutor and a sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and have been teaching for 6 years at the elementary, high school, and university level at recognized institutions and organizations. My class sizes range from 1 to 250, however personal (1 to 1) tutoring is preferred so that my lessons can be tailored to the specific needs of a student. The majority of my classes are delivered online and are highly interactive. The majority of my private Math courses are for competition preparation (AMC, Kangaroo, Caribou, Waterloo, Math Challenge, etc.). My Science classes are highly interactive and students are encouraged to take on realistic projects to enrich their learning. I also create math and logic content on various social media platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

About the lesson

I always focus on understanding of concepts so that my students avoid memorization and gain confidence. This is assisted with interactive demonstrations, concrete objects, and realistic examples. After introducing concepts, problems are tackled together with the student, and if the student is stuck, the parts of the answer are elicited rather than given, so that the student arrives at the final answer by themselves. In the first lesson, the goals of the student are taken into consideration as well as their current understanding of the material and their learning style. With this information, a plan is developed to make the learning process as efficient as possible.
