About Gillian

Teaching guitar has been my passion for more than 8 years, both in-person and online. My academic foundation comes from a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance specializing in Contemporary Styles. This training gives me a broad range of tools to share with students. My teaching philosophy is rooted in creativity and exploration. I emphasize composition, arranging, and original songwriting as central skills. Lessons include harmonic study, melodic invention, and the art of counterpoint. I also help students record basic demos so their ideas don’t just stay in their head. Over the years, I have taught beginners, advancing players, and even professionals with specific compositional goals. Each student receives guidance that matches their aspirations. The lessons are adaptable, inspiring, and structured around personal growth. My approach combines technique with creativity, so learning feels purposeful. Together, we’ll build not just skill, but also your unique voice as a guitarist. I welcome you to join me in making music that is truly your own.

About the lesson

When I teach guitar, I focus on making music theory approachable and practical. Scales, modes, and chords are explained step by step, always tied to the fretboard. This shows how theory can directly improve your playing. Chord construction lessons reveal the logic behind harmony, so new sounds become easy to find. Harmonic analysis connects everything, allowing you to see how songs are built. My approach blends technical knowledge with creativity. Every concept is put into action through improvisation and composition. The Aspiring Rock Star can use theory to create solos that feel natural, while The Classical Purist gains clarity in harmony and structure. Lessons are flexible, meeting each student where they are. I guide learners to translate abstract theory into fluent playing. Practical exercises reinforce understanding. Students gain both confidence and independence on the instrument. By the end, theory no longer feels like a mystery but a tool for musical expression. Together, we’ll make the fretboard come alive with knowledge and creativity.
