About Andrew
I have nearly 25 years experience of playing music as a soloist and in groups in all manner of different styles and sizes which has afforded me a huge repertoire of different techniques to draw on when it comes to imparting that knowledge and skills to others.
I have taught both children and adults privately and in a school / college environment. With each pupil, I have designed lessons around their personal requirements, age and abilities, musical knowledge and areas of interest.
I'm passionate about pupils making the most of an interest they have, and was lucky to receive instruction myself from several teachers who were willing to let me learn what I wanted to learn.
I never had a positive experience of learning classical music with sheet music, and although I eventually got graded in piano, guitar and theory and did a music degree, playing the instrument competently in the first place was what excited me.

I'm a modern performing musician, with vast experience of playing keyboards in groups and on recordings - modern music ranging from pop, rock, jazz and blues, to folk and musical theatre.
I'm more interested in facilitating pupils achieve their piano / keyboard aims in pop, rock, jazz, blues and indy / songwriter styles, than studying classical music or working towards grades. I'm interested in real life musical skills that can be applied to projects. Whether you are a complete beginner that desperately wants to be able play keyboard or piano on a track you're writing, or an intermediate player who needs some guidance to get their skills to the next level.
Lessons usually last an hour (double slots are possible) and are adapted to suit each pupil separately, based on ability, areas of interest and age.
