About Katrina Joy
Hello! My name is Katrina and I am a native English teacher from the United States! Since 2016, I have been an online English as a Second Language instructor for children, teens and adults from countries from around the world. I have taught over 1,600 lessons with over 300 students!
I love to travel and learn languages which has led me to be a polyglot! I speak American English (my native language), Tagalog, Kampampangan (a dialect of the Philippines) and I am at an intermediate level in French. Spanish and Italian are the languages that I am learning next! I have also traveled to Canada, the United States, Australia, Philippines, Japan, and I recently have come back from a trip to Spain.
In terms of education, I have a background in economics and political science due to my undergraduate degree and I work as a grant manager in terms of my current work history. Currently I live in New York City and I am a law student at the University of London's London School of Politics and Economics so I am very skilled at business and law English.
Since I am a grant manager, I am well-versed in legal documents, business terms and language, and extensive writing in general. I can also help with law terms and concepts.

In terms of teaching methodology, I believe that the student must talk more than the teacher! I like to immerse the student in their English language journey, so my students can completely focus on learning English and all my students receive written feedback at the end of each lesson. I also like to create individualized and customized lesson plans for my students!

Kid's English (30 minutes):
(5 min.) Introductions and Welcome Song
(5 min.) Picture Response {Adjectives: "Can you describe the picture?"}
(10 min.) Body Parts Dance {Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes}
(5 min.) Bring Me Game {Vocabulary Game: ex. "I am red, round and small. Can you bring me?"}
(5 min.) End of Lesson Review (Talk with parents about the student's progress and end with a good-bye song.)
Adult's English Lesson (30 minutes):
(5 min.) Introductions {Warm-up and check-in for the day's lesson and to talk about progress since last lesson.}
(5 min.) Breaking News English {Short news article which is tailored to the student's English level. This is for pronunciation and English vocabulary practice.}
(5 min.) Grammar Introduction or Writing Exercise
(10 min.) Free Talk {This is to practice what we have learned and to make sure that the student is more comfortable with conversational English.}
(5 min.) Conclusion {This is to talk about the student's progress and any questions about what the student has learned during their lesson.}
