About Elise

Elise Mele is a dance artist, educator, and choreographer. Elise values the therapeutic experience of dance and researches different methods of connecting to the body, soul, and mind through her dance and somatic practice. These practices show up in Elise’s choreography and teaching philosophies. As an educator, Elise’s goal is to enable the students to discover their inner artist and best self through dance techniques, professionalism, performance, and creative voice through self-expression. Elise’s academic endeavors have granted her a Bachelor in Science Dance degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her MFA (Master of Fine Arts) from Temple University, Philadelphia. Professionally, Elise performed with several companies in the Greater Philadelphia region and toured nationally and internationally. My choreography has been exhibited in High School and University venues, as well as, the city of Philadelphia’s Fringe Festival. Elise also is a certified Pilates instructor and uses her practice as a source to challenge the body and develop a practice that caters to the individual.

About the lesson

Take lessons with me and enhance your training! We will focus on the fundamentals of various dance techniques as well as movement quality. Dancers will learn and grow as technicians and artists. Most of all we will have fun! The curriculum for my teaching style is listed below:

Building Foundations: Build foundations of dance techniques in progressive sequence and with complementary background information

Mixing and Matching: Provide opportunities to learn or process movement in various ways, such as somatic and investigative strategies. We are going beyond the technical dancer.

Developing Body Awareness: Provide somatic experiences, information, and opportunities. Going through the movements vs. feeling the movements.

Enhancing Body Image: Provide opportunities to discuss and reinforce healthy body image and supportive strategies in nutrition and conditioning.

Embracing the Safe and Sound: Ensure safe practices are established regarding alignment work, prevention, and management of injuries.

Creating Enlightened Practice: Provide constructive feedback and incorporate appropriate repetition. We are constantly growing and learning.
