About Jose
My musical story started at age 6 with keyboards, eventually leading me through several instruments until I discovered the electric bass as a teenager—and I never looked back. Growing up in Chile, I played live in multiple bands, including recording as a teenager on the album "A Lo Amigo" by the blues-rock band El Cruce.
After moving on to study music and sound in college, bass became a lifelong passion. Today, I balance life as a dedicated dad with professional audio work, mixing and mastering albums for local artists in the Sebastopol area. While I've stepped back from heavy touring, you can still find me playing live with Sevamantra, where I share devotional music.
Now, I want to pass on what I've learned—combining real-world experience, solid technique, and a love for groove to help the next wave of bass players find their voice.

My Teaching Approach
Real Music, Less Reading: We focus on fingerstyle technique, groove, and the American key system—skipping heavy music reading and slap.
Pop, Rock & Blues: You will learn how to lock in a solid rhythm, master scales, and confidently improvise over your favorite tracks.
Ergonomics & Tone: We will dial in your sound and hand posture so you play comfortably and sound great.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-up & Ergonomics (10 mins): Checking posture and running quick fingerstyle exercises.
Theory & Scales (15 mins): Practical application of scales and the American key system on the fretboard.
Song & Groove Work (25 mins): Breaking down real pop, rock, or blues bass lines.
Improv Jam (10 mins): Jamming over backing tracks to build your soloing and creative confidence.

Perfect for beginner to intermediate bass players of all ages who want to play pop, rock, or blues, understand the fretboard, and actually jam instead of just staring at sheet music.
