Also created an art table at lunch in an effort to give students an opportunity to spend time with others they normally couldn’t. The project focused on special needs children and those with allergies who are separated from the rest of their classmates during meal time.

close conjunction with the author.

2012 - Muralist/Artist - The Wolf Conservation Center, South Salem, NY - Designed and

2001 - Designer, Anthropologie, Philadelphia, PA – Executed trompe l’oeil designs for ceramic dishware. Precisely translated 3-dimensional art pieces to 2-dimensional painted images.
1999 - Designer, Urban Outfitters, Philadelphia, PA - Designed skirt layouts based on
reference.

1998 - 1996 – Art Teacher, Spoke the Hub Re:creation Center, Brooklyn, NY – Led and taught introduction to drawing to students ages 9-12. Classes culminated in exhibits. Students participated in the selection of their work shown and wrote their own profiles detailing their backgrounds and inspirations.

1998 - 1996 - Arts and Crafts Teacher, Spoke the Hub Re:creation Center, Brooklyn NY – Led and taught craft projects based on various ethnic traditions to students ages 6-11. We discussed the origins of the crafts and meanings for the materials.

1992 - 1988 - Camp Counselor, ECCC, Ivoryton, CT - Was in charge of seven 11 - 12 year old girls. Lived with them in a tent in the woods by a lake. Taught swimming at all levels as well as many other outdoor and indoor activities. Became qualified as a lifeguard and completed CPR classes. Created weekly classes. Was responsible for Rec Hall activities.

About the lesson

Teaching method and techniques:
I try to implement a child-centered, developmentally appropriate approach. Lessons are tailored to age, skill level, attention span and individual interests. Young children focus on play, exploration and fine-motor development; older students work on technique, concept and personal style.
Process-first, skills-driven learning: balance between creative exploration and explicit skill instruction (line, shape, composition, tone, color mixing, brushwork, collage, 3D construction).
I teach according to scaffolded progression: break complex skills into simple, progressive steps (demonstration → guided practice → independent work → reflective critique).

Typical lesson plan (60-minute examples)
General template (adapted by age):
0–5 min: Warm welcome, check-in, set a simple goal (“Today we’ll learn to mix three greens”).
5–15 min: Short, engaging demonstration and/or sensory warm-up (scribble warm-up, mark-making games, color exploration).
15–35 min: Guided activity focused on the lesson skill (step-by-step demo, scaffolded support; paired or small-group help as needed).
35–50 min: Independent creative time to apply the skill to a project; tutor circulates, gives targeted feedback and extension prompts.
50–60 min: Clean up, group reflection/celebration, brief critique (what went well, one thing to try next time), set a simple home practice or sketchbook prompt.

I have experience teaching young children through teens with lessons designed to match their cognitive and motor development stages.

I want to create lessons that combine freedom and structure—students learn techniques but always have room for individuality and experimentation.
I encourage classroom routines and studio management: and always hope for smooth, predictable sessions that maximize productive time and minimize chaos. Because of my background with children who struggle with behavioral challenges I realize this isn't always realistic but understanding each child is important and helps with managing the class and also finding ways that art and a flexible environment contributes to a meaningful outcome.

When able I try to introduce cross-curricular enrichment: link art to story, science, culture and history to broaden learning and spark ideas.
