Why take an aquatic leadership course with us?

3 - 6 students in a class: As opposed to the typical 16 students : 1 instructor ratio

Flexible delivery: We offer online, blended, and in person delivery formats. Most courses are spread out over multiple classes to allow for better retention of content and increased success rates.

No final exams: It is common for bronze, first aid, and lifeguard candidates to complete an exam, which determines whether they are successful in the course. All courses with Shore use a continuous evaluation method, where your instructor is also your examiner. Continuous evaluations allow for more for practice time. Candidates have multiple opportunities to attempt award items, without the pressure of a formal exam structure.

Sunfish program: Prepare for fitness items in Lifesaving Society Bronze courses

Class ratio: 2 swimmers : 1 instructor
Class length: 45 - 60 minutes

Sunfish 11
Prerequisite: Sea Turtle 10 (or equivalent)

The goal of Sunfish 11 is to introduce swimmers to lifesaving fitness. Swimmers will work towards swimming 400 meters in 13 minutes or less. Head up front crawl and breaststroke is introduced, with a distance requirement of 25 meters. Lifesaving kicks are developed, swimmers will work on foot first surface dives, and are introduced to stride entries.

Sunfish 12
Prerequisite: Sunfish 11

Sunfish 12 challenges future lifesavers to swim 400 meters in 12 minutes or less, preparing swimmers for success in Bronze time swims. The distance for head up front crawl and breaststroke increases to 50 meters, and swimmers will put their eggbeater kick to the test when practicing towing. Swimmers will work on head first surface dives and develop their stride entries.
