About Yolanda
I am a person who loves working with young people and helping them to see the logic within Mathematics. Being a mother myself, I believe I have a "knack" for communicating with young people and motivating them to work hard and do well. I prefer and love to get to know each individual learner and work with them each at their own level of understanding. Although I have a teaching degree, I haven't spent a lot of time in a formal classroom. I have, however, kept up with all developments and syllabus changes over the years and I have built up quite the collection of worksheets and test papers. I have been a tutor for 27 years, part of it at a well known tutoring company. Initially for all grades 4 to 12 Math and Math Lit, but narrowed it down to the more senior learners over the last few years. I prefer pure Math, but I can also teach Math lit for gr.10 to 12 learners.

My lessons are online and in real time. Lessons are mostly individual, but I will consider setting up small groups if these learners are at the same level and preferably the same school. I use a document camera and share screen which shows all my work directly on the learner's device. Lessons are interactive and student participation is encouraged. All written work is scanned and sent to the learner. Homework and follow-up is key in monitoring the learner's progress. The ideal is to find the learning gaps and work on that, while also keeping up with current school work. Test and exam prep is also done; I have a lot of learning materials, including many past papers and worksheets. Math is my passion and making it understandable to learners is the goal. I teach in Afrikaans or English. Grades 7 to 12 Mathematics and gr.12 Math Lit will be considered if there is a demand for it. CAPS Syllabus for DBE and IEB in South Africa.
