About Raymond
Martial arts has been part of my life since I wrestled in high school, and over the years it has taken me around the world.
My background includes wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, including training Muay Thai in Thailand and BJJ in Brazil. I’m interested in how different disciplines approach movement, leverage, distance, balance and control.
I’m a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt and continue to train, study and develop my own practice.
I particularly enjoy private coaching because it allows the training to adapt to the individual, rather than forcing the individual to adapt to a class.
I’m based in Marina del Rey and work with students throughout the Westside at their home or another suitable training location. Training locations are arranged individually.

Every student comes to martial arts for a different reason. You may want to improve your fitness, learn practical skills, build confidence, return to training after time away, supplement your existing practice, or simply find exercise that keeps you engaged.
I tailor private sessions to your experience, ability and goals, drawing from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and Muay Thai. Training can include movement, striking, grappling, takedowns, positional work, conditioning and mobility.
Beginners are welcome. You don’t need to be “in shape” before starting. We can build fitness and technical ability progressively through training.
Your first session gives us a chance to meet, discuss your goals, train together and determine the approach that makes sense for you.

Family atmosphere. High level coaching. All different levels to learn from. Great coaching and excellent 1 on 1 attention.
I have had a wonderful experience training at werdum. Though I am one of a few women, I've never felt awkward or out of place. Everyone is very supportive. Ray Massa has been an exceptional teacher and training partner, going above and beyond to come in and train early mornings and take time with specifics I might be struggling with until I get it.
