I had felt Myron would be a good fit for me given our shared backgrounds in translation, myself currently a second-year undergrad. One subject that has always posed a challenge for me is grammar, specifically syntactic analysis, and especially syntactic analysis conducted as an initial step towards researching pragmatics or sociolinguistic patterns. Fortunately, Myron’s gentle and grounded explanations prevented the topic from becoming too abstract and distant, and moreover afforded me with the confidence and vocabulary to slowly master it on my own. The timing with which Myron compares seemingly disparate concepts is very praiseworthy, and there have been more than a few “a-ha” moments that served as additional motivation for learning.
