About Shabina

Hi! I'm a KS2 teaching specialist with 14 years experience. I've taught English, Maths and Science up to Year 6 and really enjoy this age group, especially Years 4-6.

I believe in interactive lessons with activities, examples of good work, videos around the topic, scaffolded lessons that build understanding around the concept and weekly informal testing to ensure students are actually making progress. I like to keep parents in the loop because it's been my experience that the more involved they are, the higher the achievements of the children.

My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and come with their own set of attributes. The learning I deliver must serve to meet their special needs. I endeavour to create a space where each pupil is supported and challenged as much as they need, while feeling safe.

Having taught across all primary grades over 14 years, I have had the ability to see curriculum build up learning from one age group to the other. Having had largely mixed ability cohorts with high and low achievers, I have tried to focus on meeting all their needs through ongoing differentiation and enjoy watching children develop at different paces.

The foundation of my beliefs, then, as you can see lies on being student-centric. I like to start by trying to understand how much my students know already, then pitching my lessons accordingly so that there isn't a moment of boredom during a session.

Another key element of my educational philosophy involves the role of parents as collaborators. Even as an admissions coach working with teenagers, I've always believed that nothing can be achieved without a three-way teamwork model including pupils, parents and educators. Without clear and transparent communication and follow up amongst all three elements, one cannot hope for successful academic results for children.

At the crux of it all however, is a focus on attainment and performance. I do believe that children enjoy performing well and seeing how their grades improve if assessments are perceived as yardsticks of growth. My goal is to get them to this level.
