About Fiona

I’m a passionate tutor who loves helping students grow in confidence and skill. Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring new places and travelling, which inspires me with fresh ideas and perspectives that I bring into my lessons. I have two children and two dogs, which keeps life lively and teaches me patience, adaptability, and creativity every day. I enjoy keeping fit through a variety of sports, which helps me stay energetic and focused, and I’m also a keen artist—painting, drawing, and creating are activities I love to share with my students when appropriate. My hobbies and lifestyle influence my teaching style, allowing me to create lessons that are engaging, imaginative, and tailored to each learner’s personality and needs. I aim to make learning a positive, fun, and meaningful experience, supporting students academically while nurturing their confidence and curiosity.

About the lesson

As a Year 5 classroom teacher and experienced primary tutor, my English lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student’s individual learning needs. I use a wide variety of teaching methods to ensure every learner can connect with the content, including interactive discussions, guided reading, vocabulary building, phonics support, structured writing activities, and creative tasks that spark curiosity. In my online tutoring sessions, I make full use of digital tools such as interactive whiteboards, shared documents, visual prompts, educational games, and short video clips to bring lessons to life and maintain students’ attention. I regularly incorporate differentiated materials, including levelled texts, visual aids, sentence starters, scaffolding charts, and hands-on resources where appropriate, adapting each session to match the student’s ability, confidence, and learning style. My lessons also draw on techniques such as Total Physical Response (TPR), modelling, and step-by-step practice to help students—especially those new to English—build strong foundations in comprehension, grammar, speaking, and writing. Above all, my goal is to create a warm, motivating learning environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions, express themselves, and make steady, meaningful progress in their English skills.
