About Sandy
Hello! I’m Sandy, a qualified and experienced Biology teacher with 11 years of teaching experience across international curricula.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a PGCE from the University of Sunderland, and I specialize in IB Biology SL & HL, O Level Biology, and A-Level Biology (Cambridge, Edexcel and AQA).
My approach is structured, personalized and strongly exam-focused. I provide my own carefully designed PowerPoint resources and classified exam questions with mark schemes, helping students understand complex Biology concepts and develop the confidence to tackle examination questions effectively.
I place particular emphasis on exam technique and precise scientific key terms. Students learn not only what they need to know, but also how to express their knowledge in the way examiners expect in order to maximize their marks.
I also provide guidance to IB Biology students with their Internal Assessment (IA) and Extended Essay (EE).
Each lesson typically lasts 1.5 hours and is tailored to the student's current level, individual learning needs and academic goals.
Over my 11 years of teaching, approximately 80% of my students have achieved high examination results, including A results at A-Level and scores of 6–7 in IB Biology*.

My Approach to Biology Tutoring
My approach is structured, personalized and exam-focused. I aim to help students not only understand Biology but also develop the skills needed to confidently apply their knowledge in examinations.
My Teaching Methodology
Each lesson combines clear explanation, active learning and exam practice. I provide my own carefully structured PowerPoint resources designed to simplify complex Biology concepts and make information easier to understand, organize and remember.
Students also receive classified exam questions with mark schemes, allowing us to practice specific topics and gradually develop strong exam technique.
A major part of my teaching is helping students understand how to answer according to the examination requirements. I train students to:
Identify exactly what each question is asking.
Apply their biological knowledge to unfamiliar situations.
Use the specific scientific key terms expected by examiners.
Structure answers effectively to maximize marks.
Analyze and learn from mark schemes.
Recognize common mistakes and improve their answers through feedback.
Build confidence through consistent past-paper practice.
For IB Biology students, I also provide guidance with Internal Assessments (IA) and Extended Essays (EE), helping students understand the requirements and develop their work independently.
Lesson Length
My typical online lesson is 1.5 hours, providing enough time to cover the required content, practice exam questions and review answers without rushing.
Qualifications & Experience
I have 11 years of experience teaching Biology across different international curricula.
I am a Pharmacy graduate and a qualified teacher, having completed my PGCE at the University of Sunderland.
