About Akintunde

WHY I AM INTERESTED IN TEACHING As it is often said that teachers are like candles, they burn themselves to light the way for others and better than a thousand years of diligent study is one day with a great teacher. To start with, an educator, otherwise known as a teacher is an individual who provides education for pupils and/or students, as the case may be. According to Aghenta(1991), as an input operator into the educational system, the teacher plays a big role in the conversion of raw materials -students into finished products- graduates. I have found this role pleasant and enjoyable since it gives me the opportunity to impart my community positively as it provides me with the means of having individuals in every nook and cranny of the country. Teaching appeals to my sense of learning, because it is impossible to give what you do not have. I love to learn new things daily and expand the weight of values I can build into people's lives. Just as a reasonable doctor is not expected to gamble with another life lying on the bed, so also a teacher must not gamble with the lives of his or her students, because every ignorantly taken action would affect the future of the students and thus the society at large. Therefore, as a teacher, I am well equipped with knowledge that will transform the society. Taking up a teaching job gives me opportunities to improve the quality of education and moral values which is at a declining rate in the country. School administrators and government officials have their impacts at the legislative level, but it is the teachers who directly affect learners in the classroom. I may not be able to improve the quality of education for every student in Nigeria but I will be able to for my students. Becoming a teacher affords me the privilege to take part in shaping the next generation. Through teaching, I have helped and will further help learners with low self-esteem by encouraging them and helping them realize their potentials. A common statement among my students which was directly induced by me is "Mathematics is easy". With this, I have alienated if not completely 80% of their phobia for mathematical concepts. Teaching puts people in a position to influence other people's decisions, behaviors, strengths, weaknesses and imagination. Finally, teaching is a noble profession with so much responsibilities and duties toward students. I do not only teach and impart knowledge but I also inspire and motivate students into taking important steps in life. I keep working to boost the confidence of my students and direct them in the right path. Therefore, as a teacher, I am not only a classroom educator but a life coach.

About the lesson

I enjoy teaching students with student-centered method of teaching, as this allows my students to work at their own pace. I level up their paces and ensure they enjoy what they are learning. I favor positive approach to learning, thereby encouraging my students, even when they make the tiniest of achievements.
