  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

My love for English and law grew from my fascination with how words shape our world. English taught me the beauty of storytelling and the power of communication, while law showed me how those same skills can bring about justice and change. Literature often reflects society's struggles and values, and studying law helped me see how those stories connect to real-world systems. Together, these subjects taught me to think critically, express ideas clearly, and appreciate different perspectives. I'm passionate about teaching because I get to help others discover the power of language and its role in shaping a fairer society.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

The motivation behind my decision to teach comes from the influence of great minds like Maya Angelou and Nelson Mandela. Maya Angelou's ability to weave words into powerful messages of resilience and hope showed me how language can inspire change. Her journey from hardship to becoming a voice for millions taught me the transformative power of sharing knowledge and experience.
Nelson Mandela famously said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." His dedication to learning, even during his imprisonment, highlighted the role education plays in shaping individuals and societies. These figures inspired me to teach-not just to impart knowledge but to empower others to create their own paths and make a difference.
  • How does your work help society?

My work as a teacher helps society by empowering individuals to think critically, communicate effectively, and grow into informed, empathetic citizens. By teaching language and its nuances, I help students find their voice, express their ideas, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

Through literature and discussions, I encourage them to explore diverse perspectives, fostering understanding and tolerance. These skills don't just benefit the students; they ripple outward, creating communities that are more thoughtful and collaborative. Education builds the foundation for a better society, and being part of that process is my way of contributing to positive change.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

As an English teacher, I think of Rabindranath Tagore as a role model. His profound understanding of literature and language, combined with his belief in the power of education, inspires me greatly. Tagore not only elevated Indian literature but also emphasized the importance of creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression through language.

His commitment to holistic education through institutions like Shantiniketan, where students were encouraged to think freely and explore various forms of art and literature, motivates me to create a similar environment. I aim to nurture students' love for language, helping them develop not just academic skills but also empathy and self-expression.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading a wide range of literature, from classic novels to contemporary works, as it helps me stay connected to the evolving world of language and storytelling. I also have a deep passion for writing-whether it's poetry, short stories, or personal reflections-which allows me to explore my thoughts and ideas in a creative way.

Another hobby of mine is travelling, as it offers new experiences, insights, and a deeper understanding of different cultures and their narratives. I love engaging in discussions about history, art, and societal issues, which enriches both my personal growth and teaching approach.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

One anecdote that stands out from my professional life is when a student who had always struggled with writing submitted an essay that left me truly amazed. At the beginning of the semester, this student had difficulty expressing thoughts clearly and often felt discouraged. However, over time, with consistent encouragement and constructive feedback, I saw them start to take risks in their writing, exploring new ideas and experimenting with different styles.

One day, they submitted an essay on a topic they were deeply passionate about, and it was clear that they had poured not just knowledge but also their heart into it. The essay was articulate, thoughtful, and well-organized. In my feedback, I mentioned how proud I was of their growth and how it was evident they had found their unique voice. The student later told me that this moment of recognition was a turning point, helping them realize that their voice mattered and that they were capable of more than they had ever believed.

That moment reminded me why I became a teacher-to help students discover their potential and build confidence, even when they don't see it in themselves.
