About Joanna

I'm passionate about UX and human-centred design. I currently teach postgraduate students at the university. Having mentored professionals and developed certified training courses on the topic alongside my career of over 20 years as a senior UX consultant, I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience to those entering the field of UX design and user research. Together, we can make the world a better place, as good UX and user research can have a really positive influence on people's lives.

About the lesson

I teach university students and work at the intersection of cognition, design, and computer science. As a pragmatist, I teach qualitative and quantitative methods to identify the most suitable solutions when designing for people. I teach human-centred approaches that best place people’s needs at the heart of decision-making. In addition, I place a high value on ethical research, teaching students how to undertake research with integrity and respect. Lessons vary from 1 to 3 hours in length with a short comfort break.

My teaching style is that of a demonstrator. I believe students learn best by ‘doing’ and retain information presented using a variety of formats; it’s also more engaging! I commonly give an overview of topics before sharing thought-provoking examples and context, after which students practice under supervision, helping to build their confidence. Students also receive constructive feedback during activities, allowing them to improve further.
