About Elsie

I'm a post-year 13 A-Level Maths student who has recently finished their exams. After so many years of learning and studying maths, I believe that I have the knowledge and experience in order to help others along that journey. I studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-Level, and I have been predicted an A in all three subjects. As well as this, I excelled at the GCSE level maths, getting an 8. I also received four 9s, five 7s and another 8 in my other GCSE subjects, meaning that I have many years of experience in studying and revising.

I want to tutor in order to break down the fears and worries that many students face when studying maths. All of the anxieties built up around maths create a much more intimidating impression than it truly deserves.

Maths, at its core, is a fundamentally very simple subject. All it entails is an understanding of basic fundamental principles (like addition, subtraction division and multiplication). Then, you apply them to solve various problems of increasing complexity. Then, you combine these ideas to learn new ideas, from which you can solve new and more complex problems. This simple cycle is what allows the progression of mathematical learning from addition and subtraction to quadratic equations and beyond. This allows for many different solutions to the same question. The key to success is to never lose sight of those original principles you began with. These can then be used to explain the logic of the subject, and therefore maintain your comprehension of Maths.

About the lesson

- My lessons are for students in years 9-11 who are taking GCSE maths.
- Lessons will run typically for 1 hour, during which time we'll tackle key topics by going through example various concepts, example problems and their solutions.

- By using links between the various aspects of the subjects and other real-world examples help, I'll help create a greater comprehension of the whole subject and a motivation to pursue it beyond the GCSE level.
- I'll explain many key proofs and formulae using knowledge outside of the GCSE syllabus so that a true understanding of each area is gained.
- By ensuring that an understanding of a topic is gained before moving on, I can prevent any topics from becoming long-term pain points in the syllabus

- The Topics we'll study are determined by what the students find challenging. This is so that any topics students are struggling with are tackled quickly and effectively, therefore ironing out any problems the students have with the overall course.
- Homework is set depending on the needs of the student and the difficulty of the subject, so as to prevent overworking of already stressed students.
- Revision strategies are also discussed so that the students can prepare for upcoming exams
