Programming is more about logic and a little bit about knowing the syntax. I believe in breaking down the problems into smaller problems and tackling them individually.
I generally start off by assessing the learner's knowledge level to know where we stand.
Practical examples one step at a time are a key to learning which will be followed in my lessons.

  • Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

My first experience using a computer was quite fascinating and it was in a classroom form. Personal computers weren’t common back then so when my parents got us (my siblings and I) one, it was an exciting moment. Although my screen time and content was limited given I was the youngest, I quickly developed a knack for it as I would always mess around and discover newer things by myself. That curiosity is still alive, and I wouldn’t be as satisfied with my field of work if it wasn’t for that. Stay curious!!
  • What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

I see an answer to this question in two formats, both of which I have experienced firsthand. One would be the advent of internet and the accessibility it brought along with it. Having the capability of learning any skill, any fact, the world’s history as it is, is quite amazing to me. I still remember installing local encyclopaedias in my home computer, which was already fascinating, and to have progressed to the current day and the technologies we have at our fingertips is accessibility at its finest.
  • Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

Even though my formal education is in Computer Science and engineering, my current field of work and expertise lies in transport optimisation. We are generating data at astonishing rate and that means that so much information available which can be utilised to make our lives better. My work revolves around making some of these tasks faster and more accurate.

  • Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

I have always found Elon Musk to be quite an inspiration. His diligence and true passion for what he does is quite visible, and I can’t help but be inspired by his discipline and transparent nature.
  • What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

As a university tutor, I see students say that quite often. My answer has always remained the same, “Nothing good comes off an easy task”. There is no virtue in achieving “easy” andI have always had the view of hard work triumphing raw talent. Being resilient and learning from your mistakes goes long ways and that applies to coding as well. My advice to beginners who find themselves lost when they encounter a hard problem is to give yourself time to come up with a solution away from the computer. If you can’t come up with a solution, there is no shame in looking at the solutions when you’re learning. In fact, it helps developing the logical mindset one needs to be coder.

  • What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

I am a gamer at heart. It could be competitive FPS games or casual single-player games, I enjoy gaming a lot. Other than gaming, I also enjoy comedy shows whether they are on Netflix or live shows.
