About Guilherme Afonso

I am a language teacher, having being in love with them for a long time. I was lucky enough not only to have Portuguese as my mother tongue, but to learn and understand its structure. I currently work as a teacher of Portuguese, English and Latin. I have experience on teaching and, also importantly, as a student: a good teacher is someone who always likes to learn.

About the lesson

I teach Portuguese with my own methodology, but I know several techniques, tools and methods that can help the student. It is important to know each person's specific situation: what they already know, what are their needs and motivations, what are the main subjects they need to deal with every day. Thus, my teaching will always be adapted to each student, although I follow a specific methodology and logical order. We will work on the essential skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Portuguese grammar can look scary sometimes! But we will learn it little by little, at a suitable pace: don't need to rush, but we can't be unnecessarily slow.
We are going to have:
- Texts and situations that present the linguistic structures in a simple and comprehensible way - you will often understand the structures directly by the reading of the text;
- Exercises in which the student can, from day one, speak and writein order to assure what was learnt;
- Curiosities, cultural elements and classical texts; after all, the Portuguese language is alive and beautiful!

Vocabulary will be constantly acquired - not only the more "basic" words, but also those that belong to specific areas, according to the student's interest and need.
