About Helena
With 19 years of teaching experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, I have mentored students preparing for international competitions, conservatory auditions, and professional recital opportunities. My doctoral research focused on interpretive analysis, advanced technical conditioning, and pedagogical innovation in piano education.
I believe piano mastery requires disciplined structure, intellectual engagement, and artistic exploration. At the beginning of instruction, I conduct a comprehensive assessment of posture mechanics, wrist mobility, finger independence, rhythmic stability, tonal shading, and dynamic responsiveness. Foundational sessions emphasise scale velocity control, arpeggio evenness, articulation clarity, and hand coordination precision. I provide detailed demonstrations explaining how controlled arm weight, touch sensitivity, and pedalling balance directly influence tonal colour and phrasing structure. Carefully designed warm-up systems progressively strengthen endurance and agility without tension or fatigue.
As students advance, we explore advanced repertoire interpretation, harmonic and structural analysis, pedalling refinement, voicing techniques, and memory retention strategies. I integrate sight-reading development, rhythm transformation drills, and stylistic analysis across historical periods to enhance musical adaptability. Constructive, detailed feedback ensures refinement in phrasing sophistication, tonal balance, and expressive nuance. Students are guided in designing disciplined and efficient practice strategies that encourage consistent, measurable improvement.
Performance preparation is fully integrated into my methodology. I conduct simulated recital environments, refine stage etiquette and physical composure, and introduce cognitive focus techniques to manage performance pressure effectively. Through structured rehearsal cycles and expressive polishing sessions, students develop confidence and artistic authority.
