About Ivy

My piano teaching approach centers on discovery, self-expression, and sound exploration, inviting students to engage with music as both an art and a personal language. Lessons are crafted to nurture curiosity, creativity, and emotional connection while building strong technical foundations. I encourage students to listen deeply, experiment boldly, and find their own musical voice within each piece. Through guided improvisation, we create space for spontaneous musical dialogue and inner reflection. Call-and-response games develop rhythmic awareness, intuition, and confidence in musical communication. Storytelling through music helps students translate emotion into sound, discovering how phrasing, articulation, and tempo can bring a narrative to life. We explore layered sound textures and tone balance, shaping dynamic contrasts that express nuance and sensitivity. Pedal technique becomes a tool for color and resonance, helping students paint with sound. I support learners who find meaning in emotional depth, gentle introspection, and expressive play, guiding them to combine feeling with precision.

About the lesson

I have guided pianists toward discovering the poetry hidden within sound. With a Licentiate of Music in Piano, my foundation is both classical and expressive, grounded in technique yet driven by imagination. I see the piano not only as an instrument but as a canvas where stories unfold and emotions take form.

In my teaching, literature, imagery, and storytelling intertwine with each phrase and tone. Each piece becomes a landscape—shaped by light, color, and feeling. Together, my students and I explore the moods that lie between the notes, the symbols that breathe meaning into melody, and the phrasing that turns sound into language.

Lessons are spaces for reflection and discovery. I encourage learners to listen deeply to sense the shifting hues of tone, the gravity of silence, and the rhythm of emotion. Technique is taught as a means of expression, allowing artistry to bloom naturally through disciplined craft.
