About Ruth

I am a classically trained musician, beginning my studies at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, before being awarded scholarships to some of the UK's leading music conservatoires. Whilst studying for my Bachelor's degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, I developed an avid curiosity for composing and went on to complete my Master's degree in Popular Music Composition.

As a performer I have given concerts around the UK, in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, Bridgewater and Wigmore Halls, in addition to live broadcasts on local and national radio. As a teacher, my aim is to support and encourage the student to achieve their musical goals, whether it be playing competitively, or just for fun, nurturing their love and motivation for music.

I have a 100% success rate in tutoring students for ABRSM examinations, in addition to music scholarships for Westminster, Francis Holland and Rugby schools. When I'm not teaching, I compose music for moving image and media, having scored for feature films, shorts films, adverts, art installations and jingles.

Coming to the piano later in life, I was concerned I wouldn't pick it up quickly enough and that I wouldn't have time to fit in practise around my work schedule.
