About Katka

Hello, I have started playing accordion when I was 10 years old. My first piano accordion was red Delicia with 60 bass buttons and I fell in love with it. Slowly I build myself up to play 120 bass Weltmeister. I was attending accordion classes in music school for about 10 years and participated in many competitions together with my friend. We won the Czech Republic contest in Duet category. Recently I took part in musical Once in the local theater in Rochester, MN.

In 2019, I decided to give it a try and teach. I accepted my first Lesson request and since then I taught around 15 students online and in person. Also, in past years (2019 and 2020) I got opportunity to teach group classes in community centers around Twin Cities, Minnesota.

About the lesson

I make sure that my students know how the accordion works, what is the right positioning and what all these parts do :) With the help of accordion book for beginners I teach how to play the accordion from the very beginning (or depending on the student's knowledge). So far, all my first-time-players were able to play an easy piece or two after the very first intro class. We usually practice playing treble and bass key separately and then simultaneously. At each song, I am trying to identify problematic spots that we repeatedly practice in order to play the full piece correctly. I often demonstrate playing the songs myself and I try to point out the problematic parts. I also provide recordings for most of the songs we play, so that students can listen to them in between classes and so that they know how to play them.
Depending on the level of the player, they can choose music they would like to play and bring their own ideas. I try to fit the music to the player's needs so he or she would enjoy it and keep improving.

Perfect! I am delighted to have Katerina as my accordion teacher.
I bought an accordion when I retired and tried to teach myself to play using books for beginners. I was not happy with the results and started looking for a teacher.
I read Katerina’s advertisement on Superprof and felt she could provide the expert help and guidance I needed.
From the first lesson, I knew I had made the right choice.
Katerina is understanding and patient. She has shown me how to make a tune come alive by careful attention to rhythm, dynamics and phrasing. She has encouraged me to use my imagination.
I like German and Russian folk songs, so Katerina has included these in my lessons.
Katerina and I live 3,860 miles apart and the lessons are via Skype. The distance and the 6-hour time difference has never been a problem. Katerina meets me online at times convenient for me and she emails sheet music and sound recordings for me to study between lessons.
Whatever you are striving for in your accordion playing, I can recommend Katerina as a teacher.

Excellent! I have had 3 lessons with Katerina via Skype, she is excellent at detecting my tone over the computer so she can always help me to correct my notes. She was really kind and helpful as I have never played accordion before. I intend to continue taking lessons with her because even though we have only had 3 lessons I feel that I am improving at a fast pace with her. She recommended an accordion book to me and now she teaches me from there so I can see what she is seeing even though our lessons are not in person. She is helpful and has gone above and beyond to help me succeed.

Mia is very talented student who has natural ability to concentrate on multiple activities at the same time which is essential when it comes to playing accordion.

Our initial lesson consisted of seting up the accordion correctly (straps, position), theoretical explanation of numbering fingers, description of its parts, how to use bellows and bass buttons/treble keys.
We continued with a few practical exercises for treble keyboard, bass keyboard and even both hands together. Mia did great and did not have any problem following notes and instructions.
