About Jessica

I may be young, but I have a lot of experience with tutoring young children. I am dedicated, patient and reliable. I have previously tutored a couple of children in Tin Whistle but I also regularly teach children Irish Dancing at my dance class. I have been teaching children for the last couple of years voluntarily but this is my first time tutoring for money.
I have been playing accordion for 11 years and have gone to many competitions. Also, I often play in concerts with a music group. I have done music GCSE and achieved an A* along with winning the last regional competition I competed in.
I accept that I won't have as much experience as some that are older than me but don't let that put you off as I offer a friendlier atmosphere for children to learn in, and in doing so, I get the best out of them.
I am based in North London which has an average accordion tutoring cost of £23 pounds so I make up for my lack of professional experience, even though I have some, in my prices.

About the lesson

I am an enthusiastic piano accordion player. I have 11 years of experience and have participated in many Fleidh (Irish music competitions) and performances. For example, I have played in Trafalgar Square for the past few years every Saint Patrick's Day.
My lessons are geared at young children between the ages of 5 and 14. However, I can teach people that are older if they don't mind being taught by a 17 year old.
The lesson would be structured as follows:
1) A warm up -Warm ups would be short and sweet. They would consist of finger work depending on the level of the student. An example of this would be practising scales, rolls or learning the notes.
2) Play tunes -After the warm up, we would spend the majority of the lesson playing through tunes my student already knows or learning a new tune.
3) Music Theory / Listening Practise -At the end of the lesson we will spend a short amount of time learning the basics of music theory such as reading notes. The information given will be aimed at what is needed to play Irish music. We might also do some listening practise where the student will hear an extract and will be prompted to play it back. It is important that each student does some listening practise because many tunes are taught by ear and so this is a key skill that should be taught.

I personally believe that Irish music is about having fun and enjoying what you are playing. I would not push a child into a competition but I am able to help them prepare for one if they wished to attend. Music should be a social thing and it is supposed to bring joy to both the musician and the listener. This is why I aim to make all of my lessons as enjoyable as possible.

Details

I charge £15 per hour and £8 per half an hour. If you book 5 lessons in advance, it will cost £70. If you wish to have 2 children in the same lesson, it will cost £12 per student per hour and £5 per student per half an hour.
