My teaching is centered on identifying and nurturing each student's unique strengths while tailoring lessons to their individual learning styles. With a focus on personalized instruction, I create an environment where students feel empowered to explore ideas.
I have a proven track record of guiding students based on individual needs, evidenced by positive feedback and a nomination for a postgraduate teaching award at Trinity College Dublin. From helping students establish a connection to the material to increasing confidence in their abilities, I am committed to supporting each student to develop their unique strengths. I use the Socratic method to encourage curiosity and innovation as I guide the student to structured and original analyses.
When teaching literature, I cover a diverse range of literary classics, crafting customized reading lists based on students' interests and needs. I pace the curriculum to suit the learner's speed, facilitating close analyses that integrate an understanding of historical contexts and rhetorical devices.
In essay writing, I prioritize structure, clarity, and citation methodology, tailoring instruction to address each student's specific writing strengths and areas for improvement. By emphasizing critical thinking and the development of clear expression, I empower students to build confidence in communicating their ideas.
With experience teaching English and French literature from the Renaissance to the contemporary period, including authors such as Shakespeare, Montaigne, Voltaire, Whitman and Baudelaire, I am passionate about fostering moments of connection between students and the literature they study.
When tutoring online, I meet the student via Zoom and work together on assignments via Google Docs. Our first lesson is a free consultation that allows me to gauge where you are and what is needed so that I can craft a personalized lesson plan.
I also have experience proofreading, and I am happy to discuss options.

Alexandra is an experienced teacher who places the learner at the core of her practice. Passionate about languages, literatures, the arts, and history, she tailors her classes to help learners with both themes and methods in a friendly yet productive environment. In addition to her professional skillset, she is an outstanding teacher for her human qualities: empathy, flexibility, motivation and enthusiasm. After working with Alexandra for five years in higher education, I am happy to recommend her services without reservation: she will not only take her students to the next level, but also make them passionate about their studies.
I worked with Alexandra for several years at Trinity College Dublin. She led seminars for some of our undergraduate students while completing her doctoral studies. As first-year undergraduate co-ordinator my role was to advise our tutors, including Alexandra, on their teaching practice. I found her to be committed, imaginative, flexible, and able to adapt her teaching to different learning styles. She was able to communicate a real enthusiasm for her subject. She is experienced in online as well as in-person teaching. I recommend her warmly to others.
Alexandra is an excellent tutor. She taught me how to structure an essay and explained everything clearly in a way that I could understand. She also helped me to really understand poetry for the first time. She is patient and kind, and she is a great communicator. I highly recommend!
I worked alongside Alexandra in the Centre for Medieval & Renaissance Studies, Trinity College Dublin for the duration of her doctoral research.
