About Heather

I have recently completed my PhD in neuroscience at the University of Queensland and am offering tutoring while searching for a full-time researcher position. I excel at teaching both secondary and tertiary students.

I am a patient and considerate teacher who does my best to ensure my students receive the best education. I tailor my classes to fit the student's style of learning, whether it be demonstrative, visual, aural or hands-on. My aim is to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the subject in order to achieve great scores.

I offer tutoring in:
- Biology and biomedical sciences (all secondary and tertiary levels), including genetics, pathology, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, histology, molecular biology, cellular biology, and more.
- Chemistry (secondary, TAFE, and first year undergraduate students), including biochemistry, thermodynamics, organic chemistry, and electrochemistry.
- General science and research skills, including lab report writing, manuscript editing and preparation, experiment design, and data analysis.
- English (secondary and TAFE students), including creative writing, literacy, essay writing, and proofreading.
- Maths (secondary and TAFE students), including algebra, trigonometry, calculus, probability, and statistics.

My accomplishments include:
- Recently submitted my thesis for a Doctor of Philosophy in neuroscience from the University of Queensland.
- Graduated in December 2021 with First Class Honours and a cumulative GPA of 6.7 in a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) from the University of Queensland.
- Was accepted into two highly prestigious Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine programs: one with the University of New South Wales and the University of Queensland (provisional entry).
- Received an ATAR of 98.8 (equivalent of OP1 in the year that I graduated).
- Achieved scores of over 95% in biology, university-level chemistry, English, and maths C.
- Achieved a UMAT rank of 92.

About the lesson

I prefer to teach on-one-one as I believe tutoring must be personalised to the requirements of the student and the subject. I demonstrate theories and allow students to ask as many questions as they want before letting them approach problems themselves, with the aim of letting them make their own mistakes and learning from them. I understand how important it is for students to learn at their own pace and way; I try and adapt my teaching methods to each student’s style of learning.
