I offer help with analysing and understanding literary texts, such as novels, poetry, screenplays, and film. My methodology focuses on teaching students how to analyse a text from a specific viewpoint and/or comparing and contrasting two or more literary texts, in order to fully appreciate the depth of a text. This also will give students the skills to answer any essay question they might receive on a text. I can also teach how to compose and structure literature essays, focusing on the creation of an argument which provides the spine throughout an essay. For creative writers, I tailor my lessons specifically to provide a nuanced understanding of how stories work, why certain pieces of literature are considered more ‘successful’ than others, and how reading analytically improves your own writing. My lessons are suitable for those studying A-level English Literature and Undergraduate English Literature and creative writers who want to improve their analytical skills. Please note: My lessons come with their own reading lists of literary texts that we will look at. These lists can be tailored to your interests (genre and form). In some cases, I can also teach texts that may appear on A-level exams.
