About Saverio

I am a PhD student in Economics and Finance at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and a research assistant at the Venice Centre in Economic and Risk Analytics for Public Policies (VERA).

I earned the Erasmus Mundus Master's Degree in Quantitative Economics (QEM) from the Paris School of Economics and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, following an international program spanning Belgium, Italy, and France. In my master's thesis, I developed a computational model in MATLAB to address an economic theory problem, using Monte Carlo simulations. The work was selected for presentation at the Sorbonne Workshop in Economic Theory (SWET) 2026 in Paris.

Teaching is something I've always enjoyed, even before formally doing it. During my studies, I often found myself helping classmates understand topics that had remained abstract or counterintuitive in class. It was precisely in those moments that I realized how much I enjoyed making complex concepts accessible and demonstrating the logic that connects formulas, models, and procedures.

Today, I bring to my classes the same approach I use in research: rigor, attention to detail, and the habit of reasoning through problems, rather than mechanically applying steps.

With this profile, I want to share with students the working method I developed during my international training and which I continue to refine every day through research in quantitative economics.

Lessons take place directly in front of the code: we write it, run it, see what does not work, and understand why.

The first lesson is free and is used to understand where we are starting from: how much MATLAB you have already used, whether you have a deadline to meet or would rather learn at your own pace, and whether you already have code that is not working or are starting from scratch.

From there, the course depends on what you are working on. If you have an exam, we focus on the types of exercises you will be asked to solve and on the functions you actually need, without getting sidetracked by the rest of the language. If you have a project or thesis, we work on your own code: how to structure it, how to check it as you write rather than only at the end, and how to understand why a result is not what you expected.

If, on the other hand, you do not have an exam or a deadline and simply want to learn how to program using a tool that is genuinely used in your field, we build a gradual learning path: the fundamentals of the language applied from the very beginning to real economic and statistical problems, rather than abstract exercises. Part of the work is learning how to read error messages, which can seem unfriendly but almost always tell you where to look.

We write the code together, but the keyboard is yours: I do not simply hand you ready-made scripts, because being able to work on your own code when I am not there is what really matters in the long run.

My background is in quantitative economics research, and I am used to working with models, data, and mathematical tools. For this reason, I do not limit myself to explaining a procedure: I try to make the logic behind it clear.

Each student also has access to a shared folder containing notes, worked exercises, and supporting material, so that the entire learning path is organised and always available.

The lessons are aimed at university students in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, and related fields, both for those who need to use MATLAB for exams, projects, or theses, and for those who want to approach programming through a tool that is useful in their own field.
