About Elfie

I graduated in 2023 with a Master's degree from the University of Bristol, where I also undertook my bachelors degree in Politics and International Relations. I am friendly and engaging, as well as patient and empathetic. I have a lot of experience with young people, being the eldest of 4 siblings, all of which are currently at the GCSE, AS and A-level stage of school.

As you can imagine I have been drafted in as a revision resource for all three, imparting tips and revision techniques which got me through this stressful time with straight A*'s at GCSE and through to my dream university! I am currently researching for my Doctorate at Birkbeck University, in Critical Theory and Digital Culture. My passion for academia comes from a very strong curiosity about the world and a love of essay writing.

I work with all age groups, with special emphasis on the GCSE, A-level and undergraduate ages. I have found that my age makes me personable and relatable to young people who are needing support in their academic pursuits. Essay writing is my very strong suit, so my main subject areas for GCSE and A-level are English Literature and History. At undergraduate level my areas are in the study Politics, International Relations, Sociology and Gender Studies (particularly through dissertation writing years). I have written two dissertations, and am currently in the process of writing a 60,000 word thesis, so this is also an area that I can offer students a lot fo help!

About the lesson

Every student is unique, and the delight of tutoring, (as opposed to teaching a class or seminar group), is the chance to tailor lessons and methods to meet someone's individual needs. Having two young sisters, one taking her GCSE's next year and one having just finished her A-level exams, I have spent a lot of time learning how to them through stressful exam periods!

I would say that my approach is encouraging but also with challenge. Initially, I assess what the student feels they need help with and understand their perceived strengths and weaknesses, while also conducting my own evaluation. Then, we collaboratively create a plan.

The cornerstone of a successful tutoring relationship is the ability to connect and build a strong bond of trust. I firmly believe that selecting the right tutor for you or your child is essential for achieving success, and I would love the opportunity to see if I am the right fit!
