About Winnie
I’m a Cambridge PhD student and university lecturer who specialises in helping students who find maths difficult, stressful, or confusing — especially those with gaps in their basic foundations or low confidence.
I struggled badly with maths at school myself. It wasn’t until university that things finally started to click, and I realised that I wasn’t incapable of maths — I simply needed it explained in a way that made sense to me.
That experience shapes how I teach. I’m patient, calm, and happy to go back to the basics without making a student feel embarrassed or “behind”. I break ideas down step by step, explain why methods work rather than just giving rules to memorise, and help students build confidence alongside their mathematical understanding.
Parents have often told me that their children become noticeably more confident in maths after working with me, which is something I care about just as much as improving marks. I particularly enjoy working with students who are preparing for GCSE Foundation Maths, rebuilding Key Stage 2 or 3 foundations, or who simply feel that maths has never really made sense to them. I also teach students from primary level to GCSE, including international students and non-native English speakers.
I’m here to help you feel steady, capable, and more confident in yourself — not just for exams, but beyond them too.

My tutoring style is calm, structured, and confidence-building. I focus particularly on identifying the gaps in understanding that often make later maths feel much harder than it needs to be. We may slow down, revisit earlier topics, use different examples, or approach the same idea in several ways until it genuinely clicks.
Rather than relying on memorisation, I help students understand the logic behind what they are doing, practise it in manageable steps, and gradually become more independent and confident. Lessons are usually 60 minutes, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged.
I am a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, a Visiting Lecturer at a Uni of London institution, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a qualified radiographer. I also hold an MClinRes, MSc, PgCert, and BSc (Hons).
I teach from Key Stage 1 to GCSE, with particular experience supporting students who struggle with GCSE Foundation Maths, core numeracy, confidence, and mathematical foundations.
