About Amélie

I’m Dr Amélie Mons, a French language and culture specialist with over a decade of experience teaching learners of all ages and levels, from private lessons to institutional courses at the esteemed Alliance Française. Currently, I serve as a Learning Specialist at the University of Manchester, where I guide students to reach their full potential through personalised lectures, one-on-one sessions, and creative workshops tailored to diverse learning needs.

I hold a PhD in French Studies from the University of Manchester, where I was the department’s only fully funded candidate. During my tenure, I taught French language and culture to hundreds of students, gaining recognition for my innovative and interactive teaching methods. As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, my contributions to teaching and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping best practices in higher education. Recently, I was awarded the prestigious Teaching Excellence Award at the University of Manchester, acknowledging my expertise in designing highly interactive, flexible courses adaptable to various learning styles and environments.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy emphasises creating a supportive and enjoyable environment where students feel empowered to participate actively and gain confidence in their intellectual abilities. I believe that complex ideas can be made accessible to anyone through clear, engaging, and approachable instruction. I am deeply committed to advancing pedagogical practices in language education, regularly publishing articles in leading academic journals and having authored a book with Bloomsbury (bibliography available upon request).
