About Elena

I am a dedicated and approachable tutor who combines academic expertise with a genuine enthusiasm for helping students succeed. Having completed a PhD in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, I bring both specialist knowledge and years of teaching experience in higher education. My students describe me as patient, encouraging, and clear in my explanations. I take time to understand individual needs and goals, whether that means improving grammar, building confidence in speaking, or mastering academic writing. I believe in creating a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and are motivated to reach their potential. With experience teaching and mentoring learners at school, university, and postgraduate level, I am confident in adapting lessons to different backgrounds and learning styles. I always aim to inspire curiosity as well as progress, ensuring that students gain not just knowledge, but also the skills and confidence to apply it independently.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is centred on clarity, engagement, and adaptability. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my methods to individual needs, whether that means breaking down complex grammar, guiding essay writing step by step, or focusing on spoken fluency through discussion. I combine structured explanations with practical exercises and real examples, so that students not only understand rules but also feel confident applying them. A typical lesson lasts one hour, though I can also offer 90-minute sessions for more in-depth work such as essay review or exam preparation. Each lesson begins with a clear goal, includes interactive practice, and ends with a short recap to ensure progress is consolidated. I hold a PhD in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics from the University of Cambridge and have extensive experience as a University Teaching Associate, Course Convenor, and College Supervisor. I have worked with students at different levels, from high school through to postgraduate, both in small groups and one-to-one settings. My lessons are ideal for high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate students who want to improve their Italian language skills, grammar, academic writing, or general confidence in communication. I also offer tailored lessons on general linguistics. I also enjoy working with adult learners seeking to strengthen their Italian for personal, academic, or professional reasons.
