About D'Arcee
I have 2 Master's degrees in English in Rhetoric and Creative Writing between the UK and the US, and my Doctorate in English from The Ohio State University, working with students since 2016. I also have written and published screenplays, short stories, poems, articles, academic texts and created digital audio dissertations which have won numerous awards. Further, I'm a huge believer that there is no such thing as "standardized" English but that your own culture and ideas should inform how you write, even as you learn the conventions for expectation to create writing that is good, and that ultimately matters to you.

I like working with students who want to learn how to communicate better because one of the first things I teach is that having the ability to express yourself is the baseline for most all other work. Whether you're creating social media, drafting proposals, editing, or asking for money all of it requires a fundamental understanding of rhetoric (persuasion) and different styles.
In my essay classes, I focus on intro level writing skills and the basics (how to build arguments, what college essays are looking for, and how to bolster your argument with critical analysis) and how you can apply those skills in other areas like science or history.
In creative writing, we talk about how to build stories and what the pieces of "good" writing are before we play and try different strategies that help you determine what kind of writer you are. In my courses, I'm a huge fan of mixing multimodal approaches so that might be looking at an article or watching a music video and analyzing lyrics built on your strengths.
