About Sophie
I'm a dedicated and experienced private tutor with over 10 years of one-to-one teaching in Maths and Science, working with students from GCSE through to undergraduate level.
I hold a BSc in Zoology and an MByRes in Biological Sciences from the University of Exeter, followed by a PhD in Computational Epidemiology from the Royal Veterinary College. Alongside my studies, I tutored throughout my time at university, and that passion for teaching has never left me. I now work professionally as a Data Scientist in public health, and also teach Statistics and Quantitative Methods at master's level, so you can be confident that the person supporting your studies genuinely knows their subject inside and out.
I'm passionate about making complex subjects accessible, breaking down difficult concepts into clear, logical steps and adapting my explanations to suit the way each student thinks. I believe that with the right support, every student can make real progress, and I take pride in seeing that progress happen.
My students and their families can expect clear communication, well-prepared sessions, and a tutor who is genuinely invested in their success.

I believe every student learns differently, so I take time at the start to understand how you think, where you're stuck, and what you're working towards. From there, each session is built around you.
I focus on building genuine understanding rather than rote memorisation. That means breaking down complex topics into manageable steps, using worked examples, and checking understanding before moving on. I regularly use past papers and exam-style questions to build confidence and familiarity with how topics are tested.
Sessions typically run for 60 minutes, though 90-minute lessons are available for students who need more intensive support or are working through a lot of material. Frequency and duration are always flexible to suit your schedule and goals.
