About Andreas
I am a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music educator with 8+ years of experience in the education industry and 13+ years in the performing & recording industry. I am a Royal Holloway Alumni (BMus Hons, MMus). I have studied violin with Stefanos Zymbulakis, piano, classical guitar and music theory in the Classical Conservatory of Larnaca, and electric guitar with Pavlos Chrysanthou and John Savvides. I have further studied composition under the supervision of Dr. Mark Bowden at Royal Holloway University of London, and specialised in electric guitar performance under the tuition of Nick Hollings and the supervision of Dr. Mary Dullea. My orchestral experience began from an early age as a member of Larnaca’s Violins Orchestra, leading the first violins by the age of fourteen. At the age of eighteen I joined the Military Band of Cyprus for which I served as a second trombone, as well as bass guitarist in the “light” folk orchestra of Σ.Μ.Ε.Φ (Military Music of National Guard). I was also a member of the Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Rebecca Miller. I also started working as a session lead guitarist and studio recording guitarist at the age of fifteen, and co-founded (lead guitarist) the rock bands Virtus, ΠΛΑΝ Β, and Zmepherz touring in Cyprus. I have collaborated with various artists including Andreas Moyseos, Demetris Mesimeris, KyriSax, and Marios Panayi. One of my latest collaborations was with Michalis Georgiou, recording both the bass and electric guitars for his debut album " Ta fota tis skinis (trns. Greek)". I am currently a PhD candidate, with research focus on the wider benefits of studying music in relation to the cognitive development of the student.

My approach is personalised, and based on the following factors: (Parents' goals are also taken into consideration) - Age - Capabilities - Hours available for the student to practise at home - The student's goals. It is not a secret among musicians that talent would only account for 5% of the total experience, whilst the rest 95% derives from student's systematic practice. Some specific practices will also be a part of the learning environment and plan. For a student to grow instrumentally, they should also grow musically. This does not only include aural exercises, and/or music theory & analysis, but also working on the critical thinking of the student based on literature, writings or discussions in musical topics. This may include various philosophies in music performance and interpretation, psychology of music, philosophy of education and more. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to help my students to achieve such a level (technically & knowledge-wise) that they would no longer need me/tuition. In this process I also aim to help them identify and develop their artistic language, address their emotional state and project through music to making each performance their own, unique interpretation of a musical work. My students will have the opportunity to choose their genres of main focus from a musical vocabulary ranging from classical and contemporary, to rock, blues, rock & roll, fusion, ethnic, folk, country and metal.

Andreas is a super teacher with very high expectations.
Andreas Pavlou is a highly-energetic guitarist with wide knowledge of a range of techniques and practices for the instrument. All our collaborations were of an advanced professional quality, whilst he is a person fun to work with. Andreas is dedicated to his subject and that is the reason he is not only a great performer and musician, but a great tutor as well. His musical life is of utmost importance for him and that is the reason he is passionate and hard-worker in all the relative areas. His experience in teaching young ages began from an early age since, under the supervision of his father (Head of the Classical Conservatory of Larnaca), made his first steps in instrumental tutoring. Not only this but, attending one of his open classes was a great experience in how he sees instrumental tutoring. His beliefs on versatile musical knowledge and how a modern instrumental growing should be, as well as his personalised approach built on the students’ goals and capabilities (among other key factors), are beliefs making him an exceptional tutor for students of all ages and goals. Finally, Andreas respects all musicians and instrumentalists, as well as tutors with specific characteristics or tutors with specific areas of expertise (such as tutoring people with special needs etc.), and he is thus a reliable person that will never attempt to tutor someone who requests something outside of his areas of expertise; certainly not without discussing his concerns with the people related to the case. To conclude, Andreas is an extremely professional performer and tutor, tireless worker, and in addition a fun and polite person loving to meet and work with new people.
