About Marius Debonaire

Marius Debonaire Mbetga is currently a PhD Candidate in Sociology at the University of the Western Cape. The area of his doctoral programme is Sociology of African Migrations and Societies including Afrocentricity with a focus on socioeconomic integration and social exclusion in post-apartheid South Africa. He obtained a BA in German Studies and a BA Honours in Linguistics at the University of Yaoundé І, a BA Honours in Communication Studies and a MA in Sociology at the University of the Western Cape. About the lesson

My familiarity with Linguistics combined with Sociology including my previous position of writing coach for national and international postgraduate students at a university in Cape Town, South Africa, and my understanding of how research work in the context of academia, suggest that I am a great asset for the position of tutor. In the context of my studies, I have been productive with my doctoral degree pursuits with presentations at local and international conferences by focusing on an amalgamation of social theories that include the concepts and research projects in the African context.
In this context, I value my knowledge of a variety of foreign languages as an instrument of communication between academic institutions and students concerning research. This linguistic diversity, which I have been inherited through learning and teaching, has enabled me to be a French and German teacher in secondary schools. Learning and teaching French and German as foreign languages for me, were a way of knowing and living French and German cultures. Such experiences are part of the motivation for the position of tutor.
Throughout the process of learning and teaching foreign languages, attending, and presenting research sessions at local and international conferences, I have gradually acquired excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Therefore, I have learnt to think before I speak, I have learnt to be clear and concise, I have learnt to speak and present with confidence. My research abilities have allowed me to publish an academic work in an approved journal in 2019.
