About Emilia
I earned my PhD in Comparative Literature with a specialization in Italian from The Graduate Center, CUNY. My research interests include Italian cinema, history, and culture, as well as film theory and critical theory.
I taught Italian at the college level for eight years. I worked at Hunter College, CUNY, Sarah Lawrence College, and Fordham University. I have taught beginning and intermediate Italian, as well as advanced conversation classes. I have also given one-on-one lessons and tutoring sessions both privately and at Hunter College.
I grew up in the suburbs of NYC, with an American mom and an Italian dad. I grew up with both languages, and I am therefore particularly able to help English speakers learn Italian: I know the grammar topics that are particularly hard for English speakers and why, and I have tons of experiences helping students overcome those learning hurdles.
I take a lively, informal approach to my lessons. I believe that language is best learned in a stress-free, comfortable, and fun environment!

Students of all levels are welcome, and I am happy to tailor a course of study to your specific needs and interests. I use a mix of traditional grammar instruction, speaking and conversation, and reading and listening exercises to get you where you want to be.
