About Laura
Hello! I hold a PhD in Ancient History from the University of St Andrews and am excited to now be writing a book based on my research.
I'm originally from New Zealand where I first started studying Ancient History and teaching students of all ages. On the side I began a career in healthcare, which I now happily continue as a Training Specialist with NHS Scotland.

I have over six years' experience teaching high school students, undergraduate and postgraduate students (at the Universities of Auckland and St Andrews), and adults in the workplace. In the past two years for which I have feedback, 100% of students scored my teaching as 'excellent' against all criteria.
Taking pride in my warmth, patience, and approachability, my students are always at the heart of my practice. I will take time to understand how YOU learn and what is important to you, and adjust our time together accordingly. I believe that learning is least stressful when in a friendly and low-pressure environment, I prefer to structure my teaching in a casual and chatty manner while ensuring we can meet your goals together.
I'm happy to teach anyone of any age or ability. We can discuss what format of lesson would work best for you and plan accordingly. If you'd like more than one subject covered, I'm happy to accommodate this. I have have taught general 'academic study skills' workshops for university students, and having recently shifted away from history to design degrees in Cell and Gene Therapy for the NHS, I'm confident in my ability to teach outside of my research expertise! Just let me know what you'd like help with and I'll see what I can do.
